Look for our up coming events 2022
At the end of the South End’s Chandler Street, near the corner of Dartmouth and Columbus, sits the Childe Hassam Park. You may have walked by the park this year and enjoyed the blossom of a hydrangea, or maybe you gazed at the bronze Ad Astra sculpture and pondered its meaning. We hope that you’ve wandered into the park and found respite and peace on a bench amongst the greenery.
While you’ve appreciated the park, you may not know much about its namesake. Childe Hassam, an American Impressionist, is best known for his depictions of modern cities—including Boston. He is quoted as saying, “The man who will go down to posterity is the man who paints his own time and the scenes of everyday life around him.” Hassam did just that—residing in Boston’s South End, just a few blocks away from where his park sits today, he found inspiration for some of his most famous paintings.
With Hassam’s spirit in mind, the Friends of Childe Hassam Park have worked to develop programs, events, and activities that keep art alive into the community. We see the park as a venue for special events such as art shows, summer music series for children, and small dance and concert presentations. However, regardless of whether you’re an artist, or a gardener, or simply a resident who revels in the pleasant surroundings of a well-landscaped neighborhood, we hope that the Childe Hassam Park has become a valued scene of your everyday life in the South End.
To maintain the beauty of our park and to continue our programs for the South End arts community, we need your help. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation toward the Childe Hassam Park. Your support will help ensure the vibrancy of our neighborhood. You can mail a check, made out to Friends of Childe Hassam Park, Inc., to PO Box 171034, Boston, MA, 02116, or you can also make a gift online, through our secure website: www.childehassampark.com/donate.
Every gift, no matter the amount, makes a difference.
Thank you in advance for your generosity. We look forward to seeing you at the park.
